THE SUBWAY SONG

in Milan there is a subway station
where once I went looking for adventure
and this girl smiling
later, upon the stairs-

The El runs into the night
among a thousand lights.
She asked me: ‘What shall we do tonight?’-
‘Ich brauche dich!’

And later, in Frankfurt, GFR, the same subway,
and another figure comes to me
(there’s a lot of skyscrapers in Frankfurt,
the multinationals that tower on the planet);
and he did nothing but look at me for a long time
inside the music- Is this love, I wonder.

A 2012 seminar, almost two hours long, on the strange story of Marguerite Pantaine Anzieu and her doctor Jacques Lacan, going back to his 1932 Thesis on Paranoid Psychosis, and moving forward to various surprising later events and studies and reflections (among them what Didier Anzieu - eminent psychoanalyst, Lacan's runaway analysand and Marguerite's son - had to say on it all, and on his mother).

  Born in 1948, in the time of Berlin's Blockade and of the Coup of Prague, I have traversed the cold war and patriarchate. Having spent one year in the U.S.A. at 16, I chose Marxism; two years later, divided between Rimbaud Baudelaire Ginsberg Dylan on one side and Freud and Wilhelm Reich on the other, I decided to study medicine in order to become a psychoanalyst (and give a contribution to saving the world). I was in the '68 movement, and in the '77 movement. My wife became feminist. For two years I worked at a free radio, at the end obsessively broadcasting Lou Reed Patti Smith David Bowie; afterwards years of doubts regrets suffering silence. I had a 5 years psychoanalysis. For 40 years I variously worked in public psychiatric services (at the end directing an acute cases psychiatric ward, and then a territorial unit). Psychotherapist, analyst now.

  In 1975 I translated for Newton Compton editions “POESIE”, by William Blake, many times reprinted (Kindle too now). I have contributed to many reviews and projects: Erba Voglio, A/traverso first and second series, Kasparhauser etc. I'm having since three years a blog, “Oltre la Società Psichiatrica Avanzata'': Beyond the advanced psychiatric society. Sundry facebook groups. I have two children. I have much travelled. I know many languages.- I write poems sometimes; I have translated texts by Auden, Kathy Acker, S.R. Delany, Stefan George etc. In the last yers I have worked on Bernward Vesper, Ellen West, Marguerite Pantaine Anzieu, Louis Wolfson, Barbara O'Brien, Laing, Cooper, Sartre, Heidegger, Philip K. Dick, Ballard- Coleridge, Hölderlin, Novalis.

  In 1990 I published with A/traverso “Derive metropolitane” ('Metropolitan drifting'), which I sometimes meditate to put on line. In these days is being published by Manifestolibri “Louis Wolfson. Cronache da un pianeta infernale” ('Louis Wolfson. Chronicles from an infernal planet') with an essay I have written.

  Being alive is something strange.

a. The LA Theory is logically and structurally connected to the theory of Tijuana- a little like the hidden face of the planet of the apes is connected with apes triumphant, or like the sublime, cold and impassionate Law is united to its monstrous supplement of naked fury. Besides, LA is monstrous its part (in all of the four 'ecologies' Reynert Banham described)- just see the chapter on 'California noir' in Mike Davis' book on THE CITY, as Edward Soja called it.

Dick , "Now wait for last year"]", with its Italian double- and the approach to its background (anthropological, not just geographical) with 'Imperial': 1, 2, and to follow. Is this going to project me into space, like some P.K. Dick hero from 'The time is out of joint' (which Vollmann puts into his monumental bibliography)-or just towards more homely time shifts in between aliens, like Dr. Eric Sweetscent in Tijuana proper?

c. VALIS (Vast Acting Living Intelligent System), the great epic of this portion of the earth surface, showed it: Santa Ana, CA, opens up into a million dimensions and a million suns (many of these dimensions being utterly drab and devoid of meaning- the suns black, or gray). It is very doubtful that here we can hold either to the pleasure or to the reality principle: things are a little more complicated, real life (whatever it means) is not like this.

Non so se questo mi proietterà nello spazio, come qualche eroe dickiano de ‘La città sostituita’ (inclusa da Vollmann nella sua monumentale bibliografia)- o semplicemente verso più casalinghi sbalzi temporali in mezzo ad alieni, come il Dr. Eric Sweetscent a Tijuana sensu stricto.

c. VALIS (Grande Sistema Vivente Intelligente Agente), la grande epica di questa porzione della superficie del globo, lo aveva mostrato: Santa Ana, California, si apre su un milione di dimensioni e un milione di soli (con molte di queste dimensioni assolutamente squallide e prive di significato- i soli neri, o grigi). ‘E molto dubbio che qui ci si possa aggrappare al principio di piacere o a quello di realtà: le cose sono un poco più complicate, la vita vera (qualunque cosa ciò significhi) non è così.
