The so-called 'case of Aimée': or, the psychiatrist and his desire/ Le soi-disant 'cas Aimée': ou, le psychiatre et son désir [about Lacan's "De la psychose paranoïaque dans ses rapports avec la personnalité", 1932]

Much before discovering baroque prose and the tropes of rhetoric and Heidegger, Lacan wrote a beautiful book, "De la psychose paranoiaque dans ses rapports avec la personnalité". It is debatable how much of the merit goes to the object of his narrative, Marguerite Pantaine, married Anzieu (her son Didier, who was to become one of the greatest French analysts, only as an adult found out the coincidence of his mother and of the 'Aimée' of Lacan, with whom he was in analysis, and with whom he broke). I think the book is a milestone in the literature on psychosis, as well as a worthy document on the ambiguities of 'therapeutic' relationships (just like all human relationships are ambiguous;- after all, Simone de Beauvoir tried to build an ethic starting exactly from here).
